Miami Football Head Coach Mark Richt said after Saturday night’s scrimmage at Hard Rock Stadium to expect changes to the Hurricanes depth chart on Monday. That came true and Richt gave injury updates as UM got back to the Greentree Practice Fields.

Richt discussed a multitude of news going on relating to the Miami football team and program on Monday. The Hurricanes Head Coach discussed the depth chart, which players have helped themselves in the week plus of training camp and during the scrimmage and gave an injury update.

Athletic Director Blake James also spoke to the Media on Monday. He discussed the timeline on when the Hurricanes could expect to begin using the Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility. The football team was forced inside Monday when the lightning alarms went off.

One of the worst-kept secrets or smallest surprises on the depth chart came when Richt announced that Brevin Jordan was now first string at tight end. Jordan surpassed Sophomore Brian Polendey. Polendey had been playing with the first team offense after Michael Irvin was lost for four months with a  knee injury last week.

Jordan and classmate and fellow tight end Will Mallory were expected to pass Irvin and Polendey on the depth chart even before Irvin went down with the injury. Now it seems imminent that Mallory will be the second string tight end by the time the Hurricanes kickoff with LSU next month in Arlington, Texas.

Mallory and Polendey were splitting reps with the second and third team offenses in practice on Monday. Richt discussed the tight end situation on Monday. He was quoted in the Sun-Sentinel by Miami beat writer Christy Cabrera Chirinos. The other moves on the depth chart involved the offensive line and running back.

"“Overall, for brand new guys, they’ve (Jordan and Mallory) looked great. I mean they are making mistakes, they can’t get lined up right sometimes, they need a little help… They have the toughest position to learn besides offensive line play and quarterback play. Especially where Brevin is, he’s what we call the adjustor. He’s got to know by play where he lines up sometimes. He’s got so much to process. We ask him to be an on-the-line run blocker, on-the-line pass blocker, off-the-line pass blocker and route runner. We got him as a on-the-line tight end running routes. We got him split out in space running routes, catching bubbles, blocking for bubbles. He’s got a lot on his plate. Mallory has a good bit, too. But not quite as much as the position Brevin has had.”"
