Miami football depth chart vs LSU mostly as expected
There were not a lot of surprises as the depth chart for the Miami football team’s 2018 season opener against LSU was released on Tuesday morning.
The 2018 Miami football season will commence on Sunday night at 7:30 PM ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game is the tenth Advocare Classic. This will be LSU’s third appearance in the Advocare Classic and Miami’s first.
The offense was nearly 100 percent as expected. The Hurricanes will line up with three wide receivers, one running back and a tight end.
Senior quarterback Malik Rosier, Junior running back Travis Homer and wide receivers Junior Ahmmon Richards, Redshirt Junior Lawrence Cager and Sophomore Jeff Thomas are returning starters at the skill positions. Freshman tight end Brevin Jordan joins them in the starting lineup.
The offensive line which had a lot of fluctuation during Spring practice has remained the same since then. Tyler Gauthier returns as the starting center. Tyree St. Louis and Navaughn Donaldson are the tackles, albeit it at new positions. St. Louis is on the left and Donaldson on the right.
The Hurricanes guards are entering their first season as starters in 2018. Junior Right guard Hayden Mahoney played in 12 of the 13 Miami football games in 2017 and started two. Redshirt Senior Jahair Jones will be seeing the field on offense consistently for the first time in his collegiate career.
There were a few surprises on the second-team offense. Although Head Coach Mark Richt said that Cade Weldon and N’Kosi Perry were virtually tied to backup Rosier, Weldon is listed as the second-team quarterback.
The backup to Donaldson was expected to be either Sophomore Kai-Leon Herbert or Redshirt Freshman Zalon’tae Hillery. True Freshman John Campbell is currently listed behind Donaldson.
