The Miami Hurricanes will begin their 2018 season against LSU at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Miami enters the season ranked eighth and LSU 24/25.

The Sunday night of Labor Day weekend kickoff is the only major college football game that will be played all day on Sunday. It provides the Miami Hurricanes and LSU with a chance to the nation how good they can be in 2018.

The game will be televised to a national audience on ABC beginning at 7:30 PM ET. This is the sixth time in the last seven games that Miami will be televised on ABC. Their final four regular season games of 2017 plus the ACC Championship game were on ABC. The Orange Bowl was on ESPN.

Miami and LSU are meeting for the first time since LSU demolished the Hurricanes 40-3 in the 2005 Peach Bowl. Miami won the last regular season meeting 44-3 in 1988 in Baton Rouge.

Sunday night’s game is Miami’s first season opener against a ranked team and one from a Power Five Conference since the Hurricanes lost 31-13 at number 25 Louisville to open the 2014 season. That was Louisville’s inaugural game in the ACC and Brad Kaaya’s collegiate debut.

Sunday night’s game is one of the biggest of opening weekend. It is only one of four games between ranked teams week one. Number six Washington and nine Auburn will play the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon. Number 14 Michigan plays at 12 Notre Dame Saturday night.

Number 20 Virginia Tech plays at 19 Florida State on Monday night. That game will likely have a big impact on Miami’s season. A win by the Seminoles gives the Hokies a conference loss to begin 2018. That would help Miami significantly in their quest to repeat in the ACC Coastal.
