Florida State Offensive instability

Florida State’s offense was nearly nonexistent on Monday night. When they did move the ball constant mistakes hindered them. The Seminoles offense committed five turnovers. Three of those came on interceptions thrown by quarterback Deondre Francois. He returned after missing all but the 2017 season opener.

After Virginia Tech scored on its opening possession the Seminoles fumbled setting up a Hokies field goal. Virginia Tech had a 10-0 lead before Florida State had crossed midfield.

Florida State was able to generate offense in the first half with 197 total yards. It was the inability to finish drives that hurt them. A 64-yard nine-play drive ended in the first half when Ricky Aguayo missed a 32-yard field goal.

Virginia Tech would add to the lead and took a 17-3 lead into the intermission. The Hokies road their defense for most of the second half.

Florida State’s offense was worse in the final 30 minutes than the first half. Their first three drives after halftime were three and outs, the next two were lost fumbles and the final two were interceptions. The Seminoles had 130 yards in the second half.

Eighty-five of those yards came on a Cam Akers run that put the ball on the Hokies five-yard line. Three plays later Akers fumbled the ball away back to VA Tech. The Seminoles supposed star Sophomore finished with a very deceptive 82 yards on 14 carries. Other than the 85 yard-run, Akers had 13 carries for negative three yards.
