Playing quarterback for the Miami Hurricanes comes with high expectations. The fans booing Malik Rosier on Saturday night didn’t bother the Redshirt Senior.

Rosier’s inconsistent play in the four games prior to Saturday’s blowout win by the Miami Hurricanes over Savannah State had fans crushing Rosier on social media. Incompletions by Rosier on his first two attempts had the boo birds out at Hard Rock Stadium.

Rosier’s first two incompletions came on the second Miami Hurricanes drive of the game. Starting running back Travis Homer lost a fumble on the first possession. Fans had to be thinking here we go again after the loss to LSU. Miami actually started the game better in the season opener than they did against Savannah State.

The Hurricanes scored touchdowns on the next four drives to end the half. Rosier led the first three scoring drives. He finished the night eight of 12 for 131 yards with two passing touchdowns and added a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Rosier affirmed that he heard the boos when asked about it after the game. As you would and should expect from a quarterback at an elite football school like Miami Rosier was not bothered by the ridicule from the Hurricanes fans. Rosier was quoted by Palm Beach Post writer Tom D’Angelo after the game.

"“Did it bother me? Not really. It kind of made me laugh. (Head) Coach (Mark) Richt always says, ‘they don’t boo nobodies.’ Whether they boo me, whether they cheer for me, I’m going to be out there next Saturday. It’s my job to keep winning. We got a long season. … If I start winning I doubt they’ll keep booing me.”"

Rosier has often been unfairly given the sole blame for the three-game streak to end the 2017 Miami Hurricanes season. The same fans give him no credit for the ten game winning streak to begin 2017.

During a teleconference call with reporters on Sunday Richt named Rosier the starter for Toledo on Saturday. This will likely upset a sizeable percentage of the Hurricanes fanbase. Rosier didn’t do anything to lose the job on Saturday and N’Kosi Perry, Cade Weldon and Jarren Williams didn’t show enough to usurp Rosier to be the starter.

Richt discussed the quarterback situation and what it takes to be a leader in that position.

"“Malik’s our starting quarterback…People in positions of leadership get the most praise and the most criticism…All our quarterbacks have to understand, it’s part of what they signed up for. But he did handle it well and I think the team handled it well.”"

Rosier gets his first familiar opponent of the season with Toledo this week. He completed 27-36 for 333 yards, three touchdowns and an interception and added four carries for 11 yards and a touchdown rushing in last season’s 52-30 Miami comeback victory over the Rockets.

Rosier led a 42-14 Miami outburst in the second half. All three of his touchdown passes and his touchdown run came in the second half. Two of the three touchdown passes and the touchdown run came in the fourth quarter. The Hurricanes outscored Toledo 28-14 in the final 15 minutes.
