Miami Hurricanes recruits Vernon Carey Jr and Khris Bogle at UNC game

Miami Hurricanes basketball recruit Vernon Carey Jr of the University School and football recruit defensive end Khris Bogle of Cardinal Gibbons high school are in attendance Thursday night for the Canes game against North Carolina per Carey’s Twitter account.

Carey is a top priority for the Miami Hurricanes and would be the highest ranked played the basketball program has ever signed. He is a 6’10 275 pound center who is the second-ranked center and player overall in the Class of 2019 and at and the top-ranked player in Florida according to 247Sports.Com.

Carey is the son of former Miami Hurricanes and Dolphins offensive lineman Vernon Carey Senior. Miami is one of five finalists to sign Carey. Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State and North Carolina are the other four teams still in the running to sign Carey.

Bogle is a four-star recruit who is 80 percent headed to the Miami Hurricanes according to the 247 Sports Crystal Ball. The 247 composite rankings have Bogle as the 56th best player overall, the eighth best player in Florida and the fourth best weakside defensive end according to 247 Sports.

Carey spoke to Rivals.Com this spring about what Miami basketball Head Coach Jim Larranaga said to him about playing with the Hurricanes.

"“They were at our shootaround before this live session. They just come down whenever they can and coach (Jim) Larranaga just says that I could have a legacy there, since my father went there, and I could be the man there.”"

The Hurricanes basketball program received their first high school commit in nearly two years this week when combo guard Isaiah Wong from New Jersey gave his verbal commitment to sign with Miami in the Class of 2019.

Wong was hopeful that his decision to attend Miami will convince other high-level recruits like Carey to also commit to the Hurricanes. This is a critical recruiting class for Miami after not signing any high school players in the Class of 2018. They will have a pair of Freshman this season.

High school teammates forward-center Deng Gak and guard Anthony Mack have four years of eligibility remaining commencing this season. Gak redshirted with the Miami Hurricanes last season. Mack sat out at Wyoming in 2017-18 with concussions problems and was granted four years and immediate eligibility at Miami.

Bogle would be an import recruit for the Miami Hurricanes to get a commitment from. The Hurricanes are currently the 18th ranked class in the country for 2019. Miami currently has three commitments at defensive end.

Four-Star Jahfari Harvey of Vero Beach is a player whose stock is on the rise. Three-stars Cameron Williams from Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Hollywood and Jason Munoz from St. Thomas Aquinas are also a part of the Miami recruiting Class of 2019. Munoz will reportedly be shifted to defensive tackle.

Williams and Munoz have higher ranked high school teammates who are also committed to Miami. Four-star safety Keontra Smith plays with Williams at Chaminade-Madonna and changed his verbal commitment from Kentucky to the Miami Hurricanes.

Four-star linebackers Anthony Solomon and Avery Huff play with Munoz at St. Thomas Aquinas and would continue a long legacy of Raiders who played for the Miami Hurricanes The most famous St. Thomas alum to play football at Miami is Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin.
