Miami ran for 229 yards and averaged 6.73 yards per carry in their win over North Carolina on Thursday night. It’s been well publicized how dominating their defense was with three touchdowns against the Tar Heels. The Hurricanes defense allowing 215 rushing yards to North Carolina and five YPC is concerning.

The Miami Hurricanes rank 35th in rushing offense averaging 213.4 yards per game on the ground. Clemson was 28th averaging 230.25 coming into Saturday’s games. The Tigers ran for 293 against Syracuse. The bulk of that came from Sophomore Travis Etienne. Etienne ran for 203 yards and three touchdowns against the Orange.

On the other side of the ball, Miami’s 20th ranked run defense is deceptive. The Hurricanes allow 106 yards per game on the ground. Miami has allowed 530 yards and 2.83 YPC in five games this season. LSU and North Carolina combined for 371 rushing yards, 4.58 YPC and three of the four touchdowns.

Entering Saturday’s game Clemson was allowing 130.5 rushing yards per game and 2.25 yards per game. Syracuse ran for 61 yards on 26 carries with two touchdowns. Their rushing yards allowed per game will go down to 95 with their YPC going up slightly to 2.26. If the numbers stay about the same Clemson would be in the top ten.

Florida State is currently tenth allowing 97.5 yards per game and 2.87 YPC. The Hurricanes are going to have to run the ball well next week to defeat Florida State. Their running game has been as hot as any team in the country.
