After Florida State’s miraculous 28-24 last-minute victory over Louisville on Saturday the barbs have already started on Twitter other social media outlets from the Miami Hurricanes media and fanbase towards the Seminoles.

The turnover backpack, FSU’s very light 3-2 (but near 1-4) start, a win in last year’s game, a national ranking while the Seminoles remain unranked all have the Miami Hurricanes fanbase and media excited for Saturday’s showdown at Hard Rock Stadium.

The Miami Hurricanes defeated North Carolina 47-10 on Thursday night and will have an extra two days off before they face Florida State. The Seminoles needed a late touchdown for the second time in four games to get their third win of the season.

Florida State enters the rivalry game unranked for the second year in a row for the first time since 2007-08 when neither the Miami Hurricanes or the Seminoles were ranked when they played each other.

If Florida State enters next season’s game unranked that will be the first time that has happened since neither team was ranked between 1974-79. During the two tenures of glory years of the rivalry, both teams were ranked between 1984-94 and from 1999-2006.

An amazing 13 of their meetings have occurred with both teams in the top 10. Miami and Florida State have played five times with both teams ranked in the top five. Four of those occurred between 1987 and 1993 including three in a row from 1991-93. The 1991 and 92 games were the famous wide right games.

Miami fans could not wait to get to Twitter to begin the barbs and trolling Florida State. It began with a Canes Warning fan responding to our tweet about the turnover backpack the Seminoles ghastly turnover chain knockoff the turnover backpack.

Florida debuted the backpack in their week two tight victory over FCS Samford. It was widely panned throughout college football.

We highlighted many more of the tweets scrutinizing the Seminoles sad attempt at imitating the turnover chain.

FSU has barely hung on in two of their three victories this season and could easily be 1-4 heading to Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday. The Seminoles needed two touchdowns in the final 4:03 to defeat Samford. A Dondre Francois to Nyquan Murray 58 yard touchdown with 1:13 remaining on Saturday rescued FSU against Louisville.

The roles have reversed what they were for ten years as the Miami Hurricanes enter the game as the far better team for the second year in a row. Florida State barely qualified for a bowl game in 2017. The Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds was merely stating the truth about Florida State but his tweet already set off FSU fans.

This just the beginning. With six days remaining before Florida State and Miami kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium the trolling, bragging, insidiousness and outlandish predictions about what will happen in the battle for the mythical best team in Florida begin. Central Florida and Florida will have something to say about that.

As Reynolds said, “FSU is terrible and that’s why Miami needs to lock in.”  Miami has a lot more to lose in this game than Florida State does. That should allow the Seminoles to come out loose. The Hurricanes have to run the table for the remainder of the season to still have a chance at the College Football Playoff.
