For the second straight season, the Miami Hurricanes and Florida State will kickoff at 3:30 ET on ABC.
Florida State’s tight win over Louisville on Saturday and their shaky 3-2 start probably led to the afternoon kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium instead of the ABC College Football Primetime game. The Miami Hurricanes and Florida State both had poor performances in their season openers playing in ABC Primetime games.
Miami lost 33-17 the night before Labor Day in a game that was not nearly as close as the score indicated. Florida State was throttled 24-3 to Virginia Tech at home on Labor Day night in another ABC Primetime telecast.
This is the second season in a row the game will be telecast in the afternoon. In both cases, Florida State struggles have contributed to the late afternoon kickoff. Last season’s game at Doak Campbell Stadium was supposed to be an ABC Primetime game.
The Miami Hurricanes broke a seven-game losing streak against the Seminoles last season. Now UM will hope to break a five-game home losing streak against Florida State.

Miami has not defeated the Seminoles at home since Hard Rock Stadium became their home field in 2008. Miami did defeat Florida State at Hard Rock Stadium in the 2004 Orange Bowl game.
The 8:00 PM ABC Primetime Game this Saturday will be Notre Dame at Virginia Tech. Notre Dame was ranked eighth in both polls before their dominant win over seventh-ranked Stanford on Saturday. Virginia Tech fell 14 spots to 10th in the USA Today Coaches Poll and completely out of the poll last week after losing to Old Dominion.
The Miami Hurricanes are 16th in both polls. Florida State was ranked 19th in the preseason poll. The Seminoles fell out after their loss to the Hokies. This is the first time since 2007-08 that Florida State will enter the game against Miami in back to back seasons unranked.
Saturday’s game will be the first time ever that a ranked Miami team will play an unranked Florida State in back to back seasons. Fourteenth and ninth-ranked Florida State played unranked Miami in 1979 and ’80. Fourth and eighth-ranked Florida State played unranked Miami in 1997 and ’98. FSU also faced unranked Miami in 2014-15.
Miami and Florida State last played in the ABC Prime Game in 2016. They also played in prime time from 2013-15. The way the future looks for both programs if the Miami-Florida State game is going to make a return to prime time it will have to come from a resurgence from the Seminoles.
Miami and Florida State will also be available to watch via Fubo’s live stream.
Florida State 7-6 2017 final season under Jimbo Fisher and their 3-2 start to 2018 has not shown a lot of promise under Willie Taggart. The game will still be a battle. FSU has a lot of talent and they will be ready to play Miami.
