Following a 47-10 victory in their ACC opener, the Miami Hurricanes inexplicably fell one spot in both the AP Media Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll.

After a season-opening loss to LSU, the Miami Hurricanes tumbled from eighth in both polls into the 20s. Miami was passed up by Kentucky in both polls this week after the Wildcats improved to 5-0 following a 24-10 victory over South Carolina. The other teams just ahead of the Hurricanes in the polls all fell.

Stanford, Michigan and Wisconsin were all immediately ahead of Miami in the polls. Stanford dropped seven spots after losing 38-17 at Notre Dame. Michigan fell one spot to 15 after their third-largest comeback in school history. The Wolverines rallied from 17 points down to win at Northwestern 20-17.

Wisconsin dropped from 15th to 16th while on a bye week. Wisconsin is 12th in the USA Today Coaches Poll followed by Stanford, UCF, Kentucky and Michigan ahead of the Hurricanes.

It’s inexplicable that Miami fell one spot following their dominance of North Carolina. Miami scored three defensive touchdowns, DeeJay Dallas ran for over 100 yards for the second time in three games and the Hurricanes ran for over 200 yards as a team for the fourth game in a row in Miami’s blowout win over the Tar Heels.

  • The Hurricanes climb back up the rankings could be tough. After defeating FIU last week Miami seemed to be on its way back up the rankings after moving up five spots to 16th. Their only game remaining against a team that is currently ranked is at Virginia Tech November 17.

Duke was ranked last week but is out after losing to the Hokies. That was the first time Duke was ranked since Miami defeated them in the eight lateral kickoff return for a touchdown on the last play “Miracle in Durham” in 2015.

Duke is vastly improved and 4-1. The Blue Devils received one point in the media poll and five in the coaches poll. Boston College is the only other future Miami opponent currently on the schedule to receive points on the polls this week. The Eagles received three points in the Media Poll and nine in the Coaches Poll.
