N’Kosi Perry performance vs FSU similar to Rosier in 2017
Many Miami Hurricanes fans are not going to agree but N’Kosi Perry’s performance on Saturday versus Florida State was eerily similar to Malik Rosier’s performance against the Seminoles in 2017.
In the Miami Hurricanes, 24-20 victory over Florida State in 2017 Rosier was 19-44 for 254 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also ran 14 times for 29 yards. Rosier’s completion percentage was 43.1 against the Seminoles. N’Kosi Perry was 13 of 32 for 204 yards with four touchdowns, no interceptions and a lost fumble.
Both Miami signal callers struggled in the first half before coming alive and leading the Hurricanes to epic comebacks to break long losing streaks to Florida State.
Because of the bitterness towards Rosier and admiration towards N’Kosi Perry, there was zero to minimal criticism of Perry on social media during and after the Miami-Florida State game Saturday.
N’Kosi Perry completed 40.6 percent of his passes in Saturday’s game, had a 135.4 passer rating average 6.4 yards per attempt and 8.9 per completion. In last season’s victory in Tallahassee Rosier averaged 5.8 yards per attempt 6.1 per completion and had 109.6 quarterback rating.
Rosier’s interception clearly hurt him while Perry’s lost fumble doesn’t count against his passer rating. Some on social media put the lost fumble on left tackle Tyree St. Louis for missing a block. The sack can go on the offensive line but the quarterback still needs to hold on to the football.

Miami Hurricanes football analyst Don Bailey Jr. stated in radio appearances during the week that Perry keeping the turnover to a minimum was a key to victory. Florida State had two critical turnovers deep in their own territory that Perry quickly turned into touchdowns. Perry’s lost fumble was Miami’s only turnover on Saturday.
Perry also didn’t have to worry about the pressure of matching Florida State’s offense in the second half. The Seminoles gained just 40 yards after halftime. FSU quarterback Deondre Francois grappled with turnovers and threw for only 129 yards total. Francois threw for 49 of those yards on the Seminoles opening drive.

CBSSports.Com analyzed the Miami Hurricanes win over Florida State and nailed in summarizing the Hurricanes and Perry’s afternoon and early evening.
"“Perry was challenged to move the ball the down the field through the air, he often missed receivers (though, while he completed less than half of his passes, there were no turnovers). But even as Perry and the offense struggled, Richt never decided to go back to Malik Rosier at quarterback. The gameplan was set up to make things easy on the redshirt freshman, and riding with Perry allowed him to play through the mistakes and then step up with the clutch plays that helped seal the comeback win down the stretch.”"
Both Rosier and Perry made the big plays in the second half when needed to give Miami the win. Rosier led Miami on two length of the field drives in the final six minutes for the Hurricanes first victory over Florida State in seven years.
Perry was fortunate in the third quarter with two extremely short fields after turnovers to get Miami back into the game. The Redshirt Freshman quarterback did throw two of his four touchdown passes on fourth down.
Perry then led Miami on a quick 77-yard drive with big completions to Jeff Thomas for 31 yards on third and ten and a 41-yard touchdown pass to Freshman tight end Brevin Jordan for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning drive for the victory.
