Mike Ferguson who founded and runs the Florida State-centric website the Daily Nole even said Florida State deserved to lose. He’s in the minority. Both teams played hard and gave maximum effort. It’s the type of game specifically in a rivalry that both teams deserved to win.

The play was a matter of inches whether or not it was an illegal forward pass. Plays happen quickly. Slowing it down and using freeze frames will depend on your perspective. Whatever the case is it wasn’t the final play and didn’t determine the outcome.

There were just over 14 minutes remaining in the game at the time the play was called. Looking at Miami scoring 28 and that the play called back would have given FSU 34 points doesn’t take into account the entire game. Miami’s offensive play calling would have been very different.

Miami got to the Florida State one-yard line late in the game and chose to take a knee to run the clock out. It’s a fact conveniently left out by the Seminoles writers. Miami punches that touchdown and it’s easy to say they would have won the game 35-34.

The biggest reason that Florida State lost their lead was the Miami Hurricanes ability to once again force turnovers. Being able to do so and have their offense go a combined 37 yards on the touchdown drives to bring them within in six had just as big of a factor in the outcome of the game as the questionable call.
