Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Mark Richt’s decision to reinstall Malik Rosier as the U’s starting quarterback set off the Canes media and fanbase on Wednesday throughout social media.

Most of the Miami Hurricanes fanbase prefers N’Kosi Perry as the starter over Rosier. A lot of the reasons come more from passion that any solid evidence that Perry is the better quarterback. RIcht said he contemplated pulling Perry in the game against Florida State but kept him in because the Redshirt Freshman has a higher ceiling.

The decision to make a second quarterback change this season seemed to solely reside with Rosier’s experience. Richt announced the decision on Wednesday during his weekly ACC Conference Call. The announcement set off both the Miami media and fanbase throughout social media.

The common thread was that the fans and media alike did not understand Richt’s decision. Polls from very places throughout social media have shown that Perry is the overwhelming choice from fans and the media to be the Miami Hurricanes starting quarterback.

WPLG-Channel 10 Sports Anchor Will Manso had one of the strongest opinions about the quarterback change when it was announced. The thread that followed also produced a lot of strong feelings about Richt’s decision.

Manso wasn’t finished. He questioned what kind of message Perry is being sent by being benched as the Miami Hurricanes starting quarterback, what this means for the future at QB for the Canes and how this sets the team up for the remainder of the season.

It hasn’t been hard to read between the lines that Richt has the most confidence in Jarren Williams as the starting quarterback for the future with the Miami Hurricanes. Richt has strongly implied nearly every chance that the conversation comes up that Williams is the most accurate passer on the roster.

Manso was also backed by WQAM night time host and the host of the Miami Hurricanes pregame football shows Alex Donno questioning the future quarterback for the Miami Hurricanes.

The inconsistent play at quarterback by both Perry and Rosier have wasted what could be the best Miami Hurricanes defense since at least 2002 and maybe since the 2001 National Championship season.

The Miami defense is among the National Leaders in several categories. The Miami Herald’s Susan Miller Degnan summed it up Tuesday. Canes Warning prefaced it by mentioning the Hurricanes posses the Nation’s top defense. The rest of the stats came from Miller Degnan.

"Miami leads the nation in total defense is in the top five in several other categories and “They’re No. 1 in tackles for loss, No. 1 in third-down conversion defense, No. 2 in passing yards allowed, No. 3 in turnovers gained, No. 5 in team sacks, No. 5 in defensive touchdowns, No. 5 in interceptions and No. 11 in rushing defense.”"

Manso then predicted that Miami should win their remaining regular season games with either Perry or Rosier as the quarterback. After this week’s bye week and next week’s trip to Boston College Miami hosts Duke, travels to Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech and hosts Pittsburgh to finish the season.

Thor Nystrom who is a college football writer and clearly not associated with the Miami Hurricanes program in any way might have had the harshest words for Richt’s decision.

Donno and CBS4 video editor and WQAM producer The Sports Bomber astutely observed that the quarterback change was more than Perry’s performance at Virginia. Donno believes that is had to do with Perry’s professionalism and his studying or lack thereof, of opponents’ defenses. The discussed it in a Twitter video post.

Orlando Alzugaray who hosts the big O show on WQAM posted his own poll on who should be the starting quarterback. As of Wednesday night, 86 percent of over 1,200 votes said that Richt made the wrong choice on Wednesday night.

The Canes Warning Twitter poll has Perry as the 63 percent favored quarterback and Freshman Jarren Williams second at 20 percent.

Richt’s decisive decision was shrewd. It took away the quarterback controversy that could have developed over the next nine days. At the very least both Perry and Rosier will get a chance to play against Boston College and earn the starting quarterback position.

The Eagles pass defense is subpar. BC is 70th in the nation allowing 227.1 passing yards per game. Boston College has been a bit tougher on opposing quarterbacks accuracy. That plays against both Perry and Rosier’s weaknesses. The Eagles are 41st in the country allowing opposing QBs to complete 56.3 percent of their passes.
