Some in the Miami Hurricanes community have expressed similar sentiments about not demanding excellence enough.

Alex Donno who hosts the evening show on the Miami Hurricanes flagship station WQAM and is the Canes pregame host for football wondered if Miami quarterback N’Kosi Perry’s work ethic or lack thereof was the reason he got benched.

Smart who replaced Richt for the 2016 season has seemed to take the Bulldogs to another level. Under Richt, Georgia had ten seasons of ten or more wins. They were unable to get to the next level to consistently challenge for a National Championship.

  • Georgia never made the BCS Championship Game or the College Football Playoff during his 15 seasons in Athens. Despite the ten seasons of ten or more wins, UGA finished the season ranked in the top ten in only six of those seasons. Miami seems to be heading down the same path.

In his first 23 games as the Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Richt was 19-4.  Richt and the Hurricanes are 5-5 in their last 10 games. Three of Richt’s 25 wins during his tenure with Miami were against FCS teams.

After the first ten games of the 2017 season, Miami was in the thick of the College Football Playoff Race. Heading into their final regular season game against Pittsburgh Miami was ranked second in the CFP Polls. That all collapsed with a loss to the Panthers in the Steel City.

That was followed by a 38-3 loss to Clemson in the ACC Championship Game a week after the loss to Pittsburgh and a 34-24 defeat to Wisconsin in the Orange Bowl. Penny sees Miami heading down the same path with Richt as Georgia did.
