Miami Hurricanes have been hindered by opponent hidden yards
In later games this season, excellent field position worked in Miami’s favor. The Hurricanes scored three defensive touchdowns against North Carolina in a 47-10 victory. The defense also played a huge role in the Miami Hurricanes victory over Florida State.

Against the Seminoles, Miami fell into a 27-7 deficit after Florida State’s D.J. Matthews returned a Jack Spicer punt 74-yards for a touchdown. Even before that Florida State had good field position on their four scoring drives.
Matthews return was the score that gave FSU their 20 point lead in the third quarter. Florida State began their four scoring drives on average at the Miami Hurricanes 47-yard line.
Consistently giving the opposition plus field position is almost handing over points. The Hurricanes defense toughened up in the second half. Florida State had 40 yards of offense in the second half.
The Seminoles average drive after halftime began at their own 24-yard line. The Miami defense shut down the Seminoles in the second half. Two big turnovers set up the Hurricanes offense in the red zone in the third quarter after FSU took their 20 point lead.
A Michael Pinckney interception gave Miami the ball at the Florida State 20 yard line. Five plays later N’Kosi Perry connected with Lawrence Cager for the second time in the game on a three-yard touchdown pass.
