The Miami Hurricanes have been extremely streaky in the two and a half years with Mark Richt as Head Coach. That doesn’t bode well for Friday night’s game at Boston College.

The Mark Richt era as the Head Coach of the Miami Hurricanes began with four straight wins to open the 2016 season. That was followed by four straight losses and five straight wins to finish up the season.

Miami ran the winning streak to 15 games overall with ten straight wins to begin 2017. The Hurricanes ended 2017 with three straight losses. The losing streak was extended to four games with a season-opening loss to LSU.

The loss to the Tigers was followed by four straight wins and a loss to Virginia before the bye week this past weekend. Based on the trend that’s a daunting thought heading into Friday night’s game at Boston College.

The Miami Hurricanes have never won or lost just one game in a streak under Richt. It could be an aberration or a coincidence. There could also be a pattern that has developed over the last 33 games.

Miami’s four wins to begin the Richt era at came against two Group of Five Conference teams and one from the FCS. Richt’s ACC debut at Miami came against a team he was familiar with at Georgia, Georgia Tech. None of those teams were ranked.

Miami began the Richt era with a 70-3 victory at home against FCS Florida A&M. They followed that up with a home win over Florida Atlantic and road victories at Appalachian State and Georgia Tech.

The Hurricanes appeared to be on their way to ending what was then a six-game losing streak to Florida State in early October. The Hurricanes blew a 13-3 lead and had a potential game-tying extra point blocked with just over a minute remaining in the game. That began a four-game Miami losing streak.
