Close losses to North Carolina and Notre Dame sandwiched a 37-17 loss at Virginia Tech. The Hurricanes closed out the 2016 regular season with ACC victories over Virginia, North Carolina State and Duke. They ended the season with their first bowl win in ten years over West Virginia.

Florida State was ranked 23rd at the time Miami played them and West Virginia entered the Camping World Bowl 14th. Those were Miami’s only games against ranked teams in 2016.

  • The Miami Hurricanes finished the 2016 season 4-2 at Hard Rock Stadium, 4-2 on the road and 1-0 in neutral site games.

The finish to the 2016 season gave the Miami Hurricanes momentum heading into 2017. Miami began 2017 with a home victory over Bethune-Cookman. Their game against Arkansas State a week later was canceled due to Hurricane Irma.

Miami was scheduled to play Florida State week three but that was rescheduled to October 6 because of the fallout from Irma. They would play Toledo week four after what was essentially back to back bye weeks. The Hurricanes then ironically had to play 11 straight weeks without a bye because of Hurricane Irma.

After returning from the hiatus Miami restarted their season with a 52-30 victory over Toledo. They had to jump into ACC play quickly with a Friday night game at Duke. The Hurricanes won easily over the Blue Devils 31-6.
