Next up was the daunting task of having to end the losing streak against a reeling Florida State team. The Seminoles entered the game 1-2.  Miami needed a touchdown with six seconds remaining to pull off a 24-20 victory.

Miami reeled off three more victories after Florida State to stretch their winning streak to seven to start 2017 and eight overall. That began their toughest stretch under Richt yet. They blew out number 13 Virginia Tech 28-10 and followed that with a 41-8 victory over number three Notre Dame to run the streak to ten.

That was the only time Miami has won back to back games against ranked teams in the Richt era. The wins over the Hokies and Fighting Irish both came at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami had one more game of magic by overcoming 14 point deficits twice to defeat Virginia on Senior day at the Rock.

Miami’s most disappointing and shocking loss during the Richt era occurred the day after Thanksgiving in a 24-14 loss at Pittsburgh last season. That was followed by a 38-3 loss to Clemson in the ACC Championship game and a 34-24 loss to Wisconsin in the Orange Bowl.
