Not only has Miami been streaky during the Richt era, but all of the streaks have also been at least four games. That has been true winning or losing. A 33-17 loss to LSU to begin 2018 was worse than the scored indicated and the Miami losing streak reached four games.

The Hurricanes reversed the losing streak with a 77-0 victory over FCS Savannah State. That was followed by wins over Toledo, FIU, North Carolina and Florida State. The Hurricanes seemed to be turning things around, although they had to heavily rely on their defense in victories over UNC and FSU.

The loss to Virginia was surprising but probably shouldn’t have been. The biggest thread through all the losses in the Richt era has been the inconsistency of the offense. The Hurricanes struggled to move the ball against Florida State and used three defensive touchdowns to beat North Carolina.

Against Virginia, Miami wasted another dominant defensive performance to fall 16-13 on the road against the Cavaliers. They are going to need an equal or better performance to beat Boston College. Miami needs to gain more consistency and get out of their mode of winning and losing a block of games.
