Can the Miami Hurricanes get good enough play at quarterback?

The Miami Hurricanes fanbase has favored N’Kosi Perry as the starting quarterback since the beginning of the 2017 season. Perry redshirted last year. After a blistering beginning against FIU Perry has struggled since then.

Malik Rosier has been figuratively destroyed by the Hurricanes fanbase for his inconsistencies and lack of accuracy over the last two seasons. Perry’s major flaw on the field is also his lack of accuracy.

Perry and Rosier have both completed 50 passes this season. Rosier has only seven more attempts. Perry’s completion percentage is only 4.1 percent better. Rosier has 115 more yards, But Perry has 11 touchdowns and five interceptions to Rosier’s five and three.

As a team, Miami is 107th in the nation with a 53.9 completion percentage. When the Miami Hurricanes have struggled during Mark Richt’s tenure as Head Coach it has often been because they are not getting production on the ground. Against LSU Miami ran for just 83 yards and averaged 2.4 YPC.

The overall numbers against Virginia were good, but a lot of it came on one play. A Travis Homer 70 yard run made up nearly half of the Miami Hurricanes rushing yards against the Cavaliers. The Hurricanes ran or 149 yards and 5.1 YPC with one touchdown. Taking away Homer’s run lowers Miami’s YPC to 2.82 vs UVA.

Mark Richt needs to figure out what is wrong with his offense. If the Canes can’t figure out a way to make their quarterback productive, opposing defenses will be able to stack the box and dare Rosier, Perry or whoever is under center to throw it.
