Friday night’s loss to Boston College was the Miami Hurricanes second in a row, third this season and sixth in their last eight games against a team from a Power Five conference. In the post-game, we heard more of the same rhetoric and excuses from Mark Richt and his team.
The Media and fans alike are fed up. Both groups have had a lot of the same proposals to fix the Miami Hurricanes struggles. Mark Richt should be playing a different quarterback, give up play-calling duties, hire a new Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks coach or some or all of the above.
Richt who was considered an elite if not an innovative offensive coach has seen his archaic system be stymied repeatedly since a ten game winning streak to begin the 2017 season ended with a loss to Pittsburgh in last season’s regular-season finale. The winning streak was 15 games overall over the 2016 and ’17 seasons.
The Hurricanes offense has been adept this season at moving the ball against teams from the Group of Five and the FCS. That number has been nearly cut in half in Miami’s five games against Power Five schools.
Miami averaged 480.5 yards per game of total offense in three games against Group Of Five teams Toledo and FIU and FCS Savannah State. In their five games against LSU and four ACC games, Miami is averaging just 329.5 yards per game in total offense. There is no excuse for that with a Head Coach with an offensive background.
After the loss to Boston College, Richt did not seem to have any sense of urgency. The Hurricanes were coming off of a loss and a bye week.
Richt and his Offensive (you could easily read that a different way) staff had nearly two weeks to prepare for Boston College on Friday night. There was no excuse for the performance the Hurricanes had offensively against the Eagles.
