Its time for the Miami Hurricanes and Mark Richt to stop the excuses
Instead of giving direct answers to questions asked by the media in the postgame Richt continued to be effusive in his response to questions from the media about what needs to be done to turn his offense around.
It seems as if everything that Richt said in Friday night’s postgame came from a virtual manual of how to answer questions from the media if you are a Head Coach. Richt often praises the other team which the right thing to do but the Miami Hurricanes Head Coach often deflects criticism or flaws away from his own team.

"“You never know what can happen…Gosh, if you watch some of the games so far in our Coastal Division, everybody has taken turns beating each other. So, there’s certainly still hope.“"
Friday’s loss was a complete collapse from the entire Miami Hurricanes team. The defense allowed 439 yards, over 100 yards more than any game this season and the most since they also allowed 439 against Virginia in last season’s home finale.
The offense was shutout in the fourth quarter, turned the ball over twice, was sacked three times and allowed five tackles for loss. Miami running back DeeJay Dallas continued the predictable answers in the post game.
"“It’s football. Any given Saturday. It’s not ‘What’s changed?’ It’s not playcalling. It’s not none of that. It’s just we have to execute.. That’s every team, that’s every team across the country. You have to execute. Great offenses execute. … We’ve got a lot of young guy playing. I don’t like making excuses, but look at who’s playing, you have the likes of [freshmen] Mark Pope, Dee Wiggins, guys that haven’t played a lot of football. … We’ve got a young team. We’ve just got to keep chipping.”"
Dallas’ assessment of Miami having to rely on the Freshmen is accurate. To the fans that is going to sound like an excuse.
No Miami player has been more accessible to the fans. Dallas frequently posts on social media and is cordial when interacting with the fans. Elite teams often rely on Freshmen to succeed and the most astute fans realize that.
Players and the coaching staff obviously know far more than the vast majority of any fan base. Constantly using coach speak or any generic comments to describe a loss are only going to infuriate a fanbase.
