Should Miami Hurricanes reach out to former Clemson QB Kelly Bryant ?
The 2018 football season for the Miami Hurricanes has been a big disappointment. A lot of that has been fueled by the inconsistent play at quarterback.
The Miami Hurricanes are without a quarterback commit for their recruiting class in 2019. Should Miami be targeting a transfer? Former Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant is the biggest name of quarterbacks seeking new schools for 2019.
The Miami Hurricanes lose Malik Rosier after the 2018 season. A fact that will make the vast majority of the Canes fan base happy. As it stands now Redshirt Freshmen N’Kosi Perry and Cade Weldon and True Freshman Jarren Williams will return for the 2019 season.
Some in the Miami fan base and the media have speculated that Perry might decide to transfer based on how Mark Richt has handled the quarterback position this season. Perry will likely have the most experience at quarterback heading into 2019. It seems as if Richt prefers Williams because he is more accurate than Perry.

Bryant is the biggest name and most experienced quarterback on the transfer market for 2019. The former Clemson Tiger appeared on ESPN SportsCenter last week to discuss his future, his departure from Clemson and where he could be headed for 2019.
Among the schools Bryant is reportedly interested in include, North Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisville and Baylor. Bryant has already taken visits to Chapel Hill, Fayetteville, Arkansas and Columbia, Missouri.
Bryant spoke with ESPN’s top College Football Sideline reporter Maria Taylor about his decision to transfer after losing the starting quarterback job to True Freshman Trevor Lawrence.
"“I made it and I’m happy I made it. I’m not looking back on it wishing I did something different…It’s tough because you walk away from what you’ve been a part of for such a long time. All the guys who have poured into you and you’ve poured into the young guys as well. But at the end of the day, you have to do what’s best for you. They’ll understand, whether it’s right now or a couple years down the road.”"
Bryant will have one season of eligibility remaining. He is using the new redshirt rule and being a graduate transfer to his advantage. College football players can now maintain their Redshirt season if they play in only four games. Bryant was informed that he lost his starting job to Lawrence following the Tigers fourth game this season.
Over four seasons Bryant has completed 310 passes in 469 attempts for 3333 yards and a 66.1 completion percentage. He has thrown 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Richt always states the importance of taking care of the football in his system. Bryant’s touchdown to interception ratio is similar to Rosier.
Bryant’s completion percentage is far better than Rosier or Perry. That would placate the Miami Hurricanes fanbase and the media. Far more importantly it would help the Hurricanes offense. Miami 53.0 completion percentage is 115th nationally this season. If Bryant was a team his completion percentage would rank 20th nationally.
