Stop comparing Mark Richt to Jim McIlwain or Al Golden
The fallout after consecutive losses to Virginia and Boston College by bloggers, the media and Miami Hurricanes fanbase has been to compare Canes Head Coach Mark Richt to Head Coaches that have failed elsewhere.
Mark Richt has been compared to his Miami predecessor Al Golden and former Florida Head Coach Jim McIlwain. It can be argued that both comparisons come from a place of emotion and not in rational thought.
Mark Richt and the Miami Hurricanes staff had nearly two weeks to prepare to play Boston College. The defense came out and got off to its worst start of the season allowing the Eagles to score on their first three drives.
The offense scored on the second and fourth drives of the game. Miami had only one drive end in Boston College territory the remainder of the game.
During Hurricanes Weekly on the Miami flagship station, WQAM Mark Richt and Canes Play-by-Play announcer Joe Zagacki discussed the losses the Hurricanes have had on offense. They attributed some of the offensive struggles on the reliance of Freshmen this season.
Attrition is a part of any college program. Losing
s was unforeseen and tragic. Running back Mark Walton left after the 2017 season with one year of eligibility remaining. The issues on the Miami Hurricanes offense are more than just losing players early to the NFL or career ending injuries.
Some of the criticism of Richt and his staff have been fair. Others are fans getting frustrated and not having knowledge of what the issues truly are.
