Stop comparing Mark Richt to Jim McIlwain or Al Golden

This isn’t Tallahassee where Florida State seems to be headed towards missing a bowl game. The Seminoles had to win their last four games of 2017 just to qualify for a bowl game. At 2-4 this season with three games remaining against top 25 teams the Seminoles 40 plus year bowl streak appears to be over.

Sapp’s declaration was over the top and he should know better. Sapp was on Miami at the end of the Dennis Erickson era at Miami. The Hurricanes were still a national power but had the Pell Grant scandal looming. Richt is 24-10 in two and a half seasons as the Miami Head Coach.

McIlwain was a slightly worse 22-12 at Florida and won two SEC Eastern Division titles in two and a half seasons. He was fired halfway through his third because he lost the team and the respect of the administration.

Golden was 32-25 in four and a half years at Miami. That included an 0-2 Bowl Record. Richt’s career speaks for itself. He led the Hurricanes to their first ACC Coastal Division title and appearances in the ACC Championship Game. At Georgia, Richt led the Bulldogs to two SEC Championships.

Richt might not be the elite coach that Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney or Urban Meyer is, but to compare him to Jim McIlwain or Al Golden is considerably inaccurate.
