5) USC

The Utes 41-28 victory over USC earned them the tiebreaker to win the South and a trip to the Pac-12 Title Game at Levi’s Stadium. It was the Utes fourth victory over USC in as many games against the Trojans in Salt Lake City.
USC Head Coach Clay Helton has a 32-14 record in his fourth season plus coaching the Trojans to a victory in the 2013 Las Vegas Bowl. Helton took the place of fired USC Head Coach Ed Orgeron who led LSU to a victory over Miami in the season opener.
Steve Sarkisian was hired to replace Orgeron who had replaced Lane Kiffin after five games. Kiffin is now 50 miles up the road from Miami’s campus at Florida Atlantic. Sarkisian lasted a season and a half before Helton became the Head Coach once again, this time without the interim tag.
In Helton’s first two full seasons the Trojans went 21-6 and played in the Rose and Cotton Bowls. Panic is setting in in Los Angeles just like it has in Coral Gables. Helton has taken over play-calling duties at USC and fired offensive line coach Neil Callaway following the Trojans 38-35 loss against Arizona State last weekend.
USC also had early season losses to Texas and Stanford this year. The Trojans scored only 17 points against the Longhorns and Cardinal.
