3) Nebraska

The school’s former quarterback who led a school in the South to success. That narrative should sound familiar to Miami Hurricanes fans. Like Mark Richt, Scott Frost returned to Lincoln, Nebraska as the prodigal son. Unlike Richt, Frost returned to his alma mater after leading Central Florida to an undefeated season, not getting fired.

In the three previous seasons under former longtime Oregon State Head Coach Mike Riley Nebraska was 19-19. After a faux National Championship and 13-0 season with the Knights in 2017, Frost and Nebraska began 2018 with six straight losses.

The early season losses for Nebraska included a 56-10 beatdown by Nebraska, a loss to Troy and blowing a 10 point lead in the last two and a half minutes at Northwestern. The Cornhuskers needed a victory over a Minnesota defense that’s allowed over 40 points four times this season to get their first win.

Nebraska’s only other victory this season was against FCS Bethune-Cookman. Miami defeated the Wildcats 41-13 in 2017. Nebraska has a long way to go under Frost. The Cornhuskers are 101st in scoring defense and 62nd in scoring offense.

At 2-7 Nebraska’s bowl hopes are gone. They finish the season at Illinois, Michigan State and Iowa. The 0-6 start was Nebraska’s worst start in program history. If the Cornhuskers lose their last three games this season it will be their season since 1957 and third worst ever.
