Miami Hurricanes are still a marquee team: 7pm kickoff vs Georgia Tech

MIAMI GARDENS, FL - OCTOBER 14: Trayone Gray /

Three straight losses have not deterred the ACC and ESPN from continuing to feature the Miami Hurricanes in prime time. Miami and Georgia Tech will kickoff at 7 PM on ESPN2 on Saturday.

Saturday night will be the fourth straight game and fifth in the last six that the Miami Hurricanes appear in primetime. The Hurricanes lost the previous three to Virginia, Boston College and Duke.

The irony of that the one game in that six-game stretch that was not in primetime was the victory over Florida State. That was also Miami’s last victory. By the time the Hurricanes and Yellowjackets kickoff on Saturday night in Atlanta Miami will have gone more than a month without a victory.

Miami has owned Georgia Tech recently. The Hurricanes have won three in a row and eight out of the last nine against the Yellow Jackets. Miami had to rally last season to win at Hard Rock Stadium.

Last year’s game against Georgia Tech came after defeating Florida State in the final seconds. The Hurricanes needed a Michael Badgley field goal with four seconds remaining to defeat the Yellowjackets.

Both the Miami Hurricanes and Georgia Tech enter Saturday’s game needing one more victory to reach six and become bowl eligible. That would have been unthinkable for Miami a month ago after defeating Florida State to improve to 5-1.

The Hurricanes slide over the last month has been fueled by an anemic offense. Miami has scored just 39 points in their last three games. It’s Miami’s worst three-game stretch since 2012.

The 2012 stretch came in losses to ninth-ranked Notre Dame, unranked North Carolina and 12th ranked Florida State. At the time of this year’s losing streak, none of Miami’s opponents were ranked.

The three-game losing streak has become a disturbing trend for the Miami Hurricanes. This is the 10th time in the last 13 games that Miami has had a losing streak of at least four games during a season. If you are trying to build a program that hinders any momentum that has been built.

The continual lengthy losing streaks are also something that rivals can use against you in recruiting. Mark Richt needs to get his program turned around quickly and build some momentum heading into 2019.

Next. Miami needs to improve record after loss under Mark Richt. dark

Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium is a place Richt is familiar with and had success in. His last game as the Head Coach at Georgia and first ACC Game as the Head Coach at Miami both came at Georgia Tech. Richt has never lost at Georgia Tech. He is 10-0 at Bobby Dodd Stadium as the Head Coach at Miami and UGA.
