The opener against the Mountain Hawks is a good test for the Miami basketball team to begin the 2018-19 season. Lehigh is favored to win the Patriot League. Lehigh finished 16-14 and 11-7 in the Patriot League in 2017-18.

Although the game against Lehigh is Miami’s season opener, the Mountain Hawks have an 85-61 victory at Monmouth on Tuesday night under their belt this season. Lehigh Senior guard Lance Tejada, a Miami native was picked first-team Patriot in the preseason after earning second team All-Patriot in 2017-18.

Tejada got off to a tough start in Lehigh’s season opener. He scored just four points on two of 14 from the floor and added four rebounds and four assists. Tejada was picked by Junior forward Pat Andree who had 31 points, eight rebounds and made six of his ten three-point attempts. Three other Mountain Hawks finished in double figures.

As a team, Lehigh made 11 of their 27 three-point attempts against Monmouth for 40.7 percent. The Mountain Hawks shot 49.2 percent overall from the floor. Lehigh’s defense was also excellent against the Hawks. Monmouth shot 33.9 percent from the floor and made just four of their 21 three-point attempts.
