Miami Hurricanes at Georgia Tech: Five things to watch
Contain the Option
“You can’t stop him (them) you can only hope to contain him.” That was Dan Patrick’s most (in)famous phrase when he hosted ESPN Sportscenter. That’s certainly true with the Georgia Tech triple option. When judging the overall success against the Yellow Jackets you have to take into account what you are allowing in yards per carry.

Georgia Tech enters Saturday’s game first nationally with 377 rushing yards per game. That’s almost 70 yards per game more than Army who is second in the country in rushing.
Three of Georgia Tech’s four losses this season, like Miami, have come to unranked teams. It doesn’t take an exceptional defense to slow them down. Miami has one. The Hurricanes are 23rd in the country against the run. They allow 123.56 rushing yards per game.
Miami is even better per play. The Hurricanes are 15th in the nation allowing 3.23 YPC. Miami has been susceptible against the run versus Power Five teams.
The Hurricanes are 50th in the nation against the run versus power-five opponents. Miami was able to shut down Cam Akers and Florida state. The Seminoles had just 70 yards on 33 carries.
If the last two years are any indication Miami has proven they can slow the triple option. If they have any chance against Georgia Tech that has to continue.
