Miami Hurricanes at Georgia Tech: Five things to watch
Win the turnover battle
With Georgia Tech’s methodical offense the number of possessions that Miami has against the Yellow Jackets is going to be less than usual. In their current three-game winning streak against Georgia Tech, Miami is plus-eight in turnover margin.
A slim margin makes a big difference in where the Hurricanes and Yellow Jackets rank in turnover margin this season. Georgia Tech is plus five this season and the Hurricanes plus three. The ranks the Yellow Jackets 21st in turnover margin and Miami 42nd.
Both teams have had issues turning the ball over on offense and opportunistic defenses that force turnovers. Georgia Tech is 88th with 15 turnovers on offense and Miami 94th with 16. Georgia Tech is eighth nationally with 20 turnovers forced and Miami is 13th with 19 turnovers forced.
Miami is on pace for four turnovers less than last season. It’s critical that the Hurricanes take care of the ball against Georgia Tech and capitalize on any Yellow Jackets turnovers. Miami has eight turnovers in the last three games.
Against Virginia, Miami forced three turnovers but only converted them into three points. After intercepting UVA Miami threw their own interception two plays later. Last week against Duke Travis Homer lost a fumble one play after a Jaquan Johnson interception. That cannot happen against Georgia Tech.
