4) 2000 Miami 41 Virginia Tech 23

A year after appearing in the National Championship following the 1999 season, 8-0 Virginia Tech traveled to the Orange Bowl ranked second in the nation and the defending Big East Champions. Miami was on their way back becoming one of the elite teams in the nation after probation handcuffed them in the late 1990s.

The Hurricanes turned the tables on Virginia Tech after losing 43-10 in Blacksburg in 1999. Miami turned the ball over six times in that loss. Virginia Tech had three turnovers to the Hokies one.

Michael Vick who would become the first pick in the 2001 NFL Draft had only a combined eight running and pass attempts as he was limited by an injury. Hokies backup Dave Meyer threw for 225 yards a touchdown and interception.

Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey was only 11-23 but for 283 yards, three touchdowns an interception. James Jackson ran 28 times for 145 yards and a touchdown. Santana Moss had four receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns.

Moss’ touchdown receptions went for 80 and 44 yards and Jeremy Shockey added a 44-yard touchdown reception. Jackson and Najeh Davenport added touchdown runs and Ed Reed’s fourth-quarter interception return for a touchdown iced the game.
