Whenever the Miami Hurricanes get off to a good start the question always arises “Is the U back?” Miami entered their game with Virginia Tech 7-0 and ranked ninth in the country. It was the Hurricanes third straight week in the top ten. It was their longest stretch in the top ten since 2005.
Miami got on the board first after a scoreless third quarter. Miami quarterback Malik Rosier connected with Braxton Berrios on an eight-yard touchdown pass. Less than two and a half minutes later Travis Homer galloped 64-yards for a touchdown to give Miami a 14-0 lead.
The Hokies added a field goal to cut the lead to cut the Miami lead to 14-3 at halftime. Virginia Tech’s Josh Jackson ran for a touchdown to cut the Hurricanes lead to 14-10 in the third quarter. Rosier connected with Christopher Herndon for a 43-yard touchdown a few minutes later and added a touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Four appearances by the turnover chain got the Miami Hurricanes crowd riled up, Travis Homer ran for 95 yards and a touchdown and Rosier had nearly 300 yards in the convincing 28-10 victory.
The victory over Virginia Tech was Miami’s third out of four straight with at least four turnovers forced. They added a fifth game two games later with three turnovers forced against Virginia.
