Former Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant who was supposed visit with the Miami Hurricanes this weekend for their Senior Day game against Pittsburgh will take his final visit to Auburn instead.

Several sources reported early on Monday evening that former Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant would be taking his final official visit to Auburn this weekend instead of with the Miami Hurricanes.

The report came as a surprise after Bryant had praised Mark Richt for being able to get quarterbacks to the NFL in an interview with Rivals.Com. Bryant’s likely decision to not sign with Miami leaves the Hurricanes with three quarterbacks on scholarship for 2019.

N’Kosi Perry who has started five games this season has improved as the season has gone on. Perry played two of his best games over the last two weeks in the loss to Georgia Tech and victory over Virginia Tech.

Perry has completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 336 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and added 54 rushing yards and a touchdown the last two weeks. Perry’s maturation might have influenced Bryant’s decision to forego his visit in Coral Gables. The reports are that Arkansas is the favorite to sign Bryant.

Bryant’s decision to visit Auburn over UM is somewhat surprising. Despite Perry’s growth, Auburn has Junior Jarrett Stidham at quarterback. Stidham has yet to make a decision if he will return for his Senior season. Stidham transferred to Auburn from Baylor following his Freshman season in 2015.

Perry, Redshirt Freshman Cade Weldon and True Freshman Jarren Williams will battle to be the starter next season with Malik Rosier graduating. Perry’s play the last two weeks has him in the driver’s seat to keep his starting job. Richt discussed the quarterback situation on the Joe Rose show on Monday morning.

"“He’s in the driver’s seat…But there are some other guys on campus, as we know, [Cade] Weldon and [Jarren][ Williams, that are talented guys. They’re going to get their chance to perform in the spring especially and show what they’ve got.I’m not going to close the door by any means because you just can’t do that at this point. But I do see a lot of growth in N’Kosi and I think he’s got the skill set. He can make all the throws and he runs the ball well.”"

The Miami Hurricanes still might be in the market for another quarterback for the 2019 season to add depth. If Perry has an exceptional season in 2019 he would have the option of leaving for the NFL Draft as a Redshirt Sophomore. That appears highly unlikely, but the Hurricanes need to be prepared to have depth.

If Perry got hurt that would leave them with just two healthy scholarship quarterbacks. The Hurricanes do not currently have any prospects at quarterback for 2019. That could be a disaster if the Hurricanes have injuries to the quarterbacks similar to what’s happened at tight end this season.

Miami has lost all four scholarship tight ends to injury. They will not have a healthy tight end on scholarship for the Pittsburgh game on Saturday.
