Monday’s decision by former Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant to take his last official visit with Auburn instead of the Miami Hurricanes leaves UM with only three scholarship quarterbacks entering 2019.

The recent play of N’Kosi Perry has been encouraging, but three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster for 2019 is risky for the Miami Hurricanes. Miami entered 2018 with four scholarship tight ends on the roster and all four are out with injuries entering the season finale against Pittsburgh.

Miami is not likely to sign a high profile quarterback after losing out on Bryant. The high likelihood is that Perry will begin next season as the starting quarterback. Williams should push him during spring practice and training camp.

If Perry cannot play consistently throughout the 2019 season Williams could get a chance to play next year. Cade Weldon is on the roster for depth. Miami should at least one more quarterback to fill out the 2019 roster.

None of the recruits Miami is currently pursuing play quarterback. All five of the quarterbacks that Miami offered scholarships to have committed to other schools. That includes losing a quarterback to Rutgers for the second straight season. Three-star Zamar Wise gave an oral commitment to the Scarlet Knights.

Only three of the top 75 high school quarterbacks in the Class of 2019 are uncommitted. Jayden Daniels is the nation’s second-ranked dual-threat quarterback. Fifty-percent of the projections have Daniels signing with Utah and 30 percent have him signing with UCLA.

At this point, Miami just needs to add depth at quarterback to the roster. The 2019 Miami Hurricanes roster will be extremely young at quarterback. Perry and Cade Weldon will be Redshirt Sophomores and Williams will be a Redshirt Freshman.

Justin Fomby is a three-star quarterback from Gwinnett, Georgia. Fomby attends Central Gwinett High School. That’s the same high school that produced Williams. He is the 30th ranked pro-style quarterback in the class of 2019. Fomby is leaning towards Ohio State with Missouri and three Group of Five schools recruiting him.

There are more than a dozen quarterbacks uncommitted that are ranked 75th and below in the high school rankings. That’s not the only route Miami has to go to add a fourth quarterback to their 2019 roster. The Junior College and Prep Schools routes plus a possible Graduate Transfer other than Bryant are possibilities.

The majority of the top Juco quarterbacks don’t seem to be at Miami’s level. Only a handful of them has gotten a few offers from Power Five Schools. Former Florida State quarterback Bailey Hockman who is the top-ranked Junior College QB is committed to North Carolina State.

Richt seems to be ok with the quarterbacks he has entering the 2019 season. The depth should be a concern. The pressure is on Richt and his son Jon now to develop Perry, Williams and Weldon for next season. Perry has gotten significant experience this season. Weldon and Williams have barely played this season.
