Five Miami Basketball players are averaging in double figures. Sophomore point guard Chris Lykes leads the Hurricanes and is seventh in the ACC in scoring. Lykes also leads UM with 3.4 assists per game and is sixth in the ACC with 2.4 steals per game.

Senior center Ebuka Izundu is off to the best start of his collegiate career. Izundu is averaging 11.4 PPG, 9.0 RPG and 2.1 blocks. He has two double-doubles this season. Izundu set career highs with 22 points and 19 rebounds earlier this month against Stephen F. Austin. He had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the loss to Rutgers.

Yale is not likely to be intimated by the big stage. Three Seniors who are part of Yale’s primarily seven-man rotation were part of the Bulldogs team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2016.

The three games that precede Miami and Yale are scheduled to tipoff at Noon, 2:30 and 5:00 depending on the length of the preceding games. Two of the other three games involve ACC teams.

  • Noon – Georgia Tech vs. St. John’s
  • 2:30 p.m. – Memphis vs. Texas Tech
  • 5 p.m. – NC State vs. Vanderbilt

This is Miami’s third straight season competing in the Hoophall. The atmosphere in the three previous seasons was lacking. Like last year, the Hoophall will go up against the ACC Championship game. At least this season it’s not a conflict for Miami Hurricanes fans with the football team playing at the same time.

Yale is the only team playing in this year’s Hoophall that doesn’t have a big following or is at least in a major conference. Texas Tech who plays in the second game of the quadruple header reached last season’s Elite Eight. With the school’s that are playing this season ,it’s hopefully an NCAA Tournament like atmosphere can be reached.
