The Miami Dolphins hook and (two) lateral(s) gave them a miracle victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium. The Miami Hurricanes eight lateral miracle in 2015 at Duke is still the most miraculous victory in Miami sports history.

Miami sports history has had a lot of memorable moments. Many of those have been miraculous. The Miami Hurricanes and Dolphins have specifically provided Miami football fans with many of those moments.

The two most miraculous wins in South Florida sports history have to be the one the Dolphins had over the Patriots on Sunday and the Hurricanes eight lateral kickoff return for a touchdown in 2015. The Hurricanes victory still has to be considered the most improbable in South Florida sports history.

Dan Marino’s fake spike, the Dolphins win over Bears in 1985 giving them their only loss for the season and the perfect season in 1972 are all incredible moments in Dolphins history. Sunday’s miracle 52-yard run by Kenyan Drake was not nearly as extraordinary as the Hurricanes miracle in Durham.

The Dolphins hook and lateral appeared far more coordinated than the Miami Hurricanes eight-lateral kickoff return was in 2015. Drake received a lateral from Devante Parker after he ran three yards. Parker’s short run was after a Kenny Stills 14 yard reception and subsequent lateral to Parker.

Two other Miami sports miracles have to be mentioned. The Marlins run to a World Series title in 2003 included an eight-run eighth inning in a game six victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field to send the National League Championship Series to a seventh game.

Ray Allen’s three-pointer late in game six of the 2013 NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs came after Chris Bosh fed him following an offensive rebound. It tied game six and forced overtime. The Heat would go on to win game six and tie the NBA Finals at three games apiece.

Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and company won game seven the next night to capture their second straight NBA title. That was the Heat’s third championship in franchise history. The 2013 title was their second consecutive. They won their first title in franchise history in 2006.

The Hurricanes miraculous victory over Duke in 2015 was far more random. While it seemed to be orchestrated initially as the play continued it appeared to be far more random and miraculous as the play continued.

As everyone knows by now and we mentioned above it took the Hurricanes eight laterals before Corn Elder. The entire play took nearly a minute and a half.

Miami Hurricanes play-by-play announcer Joe Zagacki called the play below with analyst Don Bailey Jr. (DBJ). The video linked to the audio from WQAMis followed by the transcript.

"“Here’s the kick…it’s a swift kick just fall down on so…he’s safe so we’re gonna throw it…there’s a pass to the other side of the field and it’s caught by Corn Elder…Elder has got into the 30-yard line he’s surrounded, now he pitches it back to Jaquan Johnson he picks it up on one hop…He’s running backwards he’s looking for a block he throws it backwards and it’s caught there by Marc Walton. Walton trying to keep it alive he gets it to Jaquan Johnson, he tosses it back here comes another pitch and Corn Elder as it looks left throws, right all the way back to the goal line.Looking for a block is Dallas Crawford he keeps it alive, chucks it all the way across the field is caught there at the 15. There’s a big block at the 30 to the 35 to the 40 to midfield and still going his Corn Elder. He’s at the 40 yardline… the 20, he’s at the 10 at the five, he scores, he scoresCorn Elder scores, (it’s) a touchdown, it’s a touchdown, it’s a miracle in Durham, North Carolina. Unbelievable! It’s a touchdown, there’s a wild celebration. Elder’s final dash was 91 yards. He did most of the work getting to the end zone after his teammates incredibly kept the play alive. The win came a week after the Miami football team suffered their worst loss in program history, 58-0 at home to Clemson.

dark. Next. Miami football has previous bowl history at Yankee Stadium

The loss cost Al Golden his job. Larry Scott was made the interim Head Coach. During the week Senior cornerback Artie Burns’ mother died suddenly. The week certainly put football in perspective.
