which covers Houston Cougars Athletics reported on Monday that Briles was expected to be hired to replace Walt Bell as the Offensive Coordinator at Florida State. Bell left to take the Head Coaching Position at Massachusetts.

It’s troubling that Florida State would hire Briles based on their own past. The Seminoles had to settle a $950,000 lawsuit out of court for Heisman Winning and National Championship quarterback Jameis Winston’s alleged rape of former student Erica Kinsman. That should not be the expense of awards and championships.

At least one Florida State fan is wise enough to see how troubling hiring Briles would be for the Seminoles because of their recent history.

Briles hiring at Houston wasn’t universally cheered. Houston Chronicle writer Jenny Dial Creech criticized the move and rightfully asked the question at what cost does winning come? She stated it wasn’t about Briles bloodline and discussed his background.

"“This isn’t about his bloodline. It’s about a coach who is named in a pending lawsuit, has broken NCAA recruiting rules and has been questionable through his actions and social media practices in the past…It sends out a message that winning is more important than morals when football is involved… The Baylor scandal isn’t over. More information is coming. Lawsuits are still pending. More victims are coming forward…It’s clear at this point that several members of the football staff had knowledge that players were committing illegal acts, including sexual assault. There are text messages and emails that have surfaced and prove that Art had knowledge and helped cover up several of the acts. Kendal was an assistant coach when the Philadelphia law firm Pepper Hamilton released their “Finding of Fact” after investigating Baylor’s practices and policies after a football player was accused of raping another student.”"

There is plenty more about what happened involving the scandal at Baylor. That included a disingenuous statement released by Baylor about the sexual assault victims. Football is a vital part of a school with an athletic program, but it should not be ahead of integrity, ethics and basic common decency.

Speaking on 79 The Ticket last week Miami Athletic Director Blake James said that 89 percent of the Hurricanes athletic budget comes from funds created by the football team. With the mess that James, Richt and yes even Al Golden, had to clean up following the Nevin Shapiro scandal. winning at Miami should not come at all costs.
