Miami football recruiting news: Solomon flips, UM Stevenson finalist, more
It was a day of good and bad news for the Miami Football program on Sunday night. Anthony Solomon flipped to Michigan and Tyrique Stevenson named Miami and Georgia as the two finalists for where he will sign.
Solomon flipping to Michigan was not a big surprise even though he’s been committed to the Miami football program for months. The 247Sports crystal ball predominantly had projected Solomon to Michigan.
Solomon is a four-star linebacker from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale. He is rated as the 10th best outside linebacker in the class of 2019. Solomon was one of the top commitments in Miami’s Surge ’19 class. Solomon’s flip to Michigan dropped the Hurricanes from the 29th best class nationally to 34th.
Solomon is a high school teammate of Miami commit and fellow linebacker Avery Huff. Huff is a solid commit to the Hurricanes. He is the 222nd ranked player in the Class of 2019, the 13th ranked outside linebacker and 34th ranked player in Florida.
The rankings are likely to shuffle a lot between now and Friday when the early signing period officially ends. Miami went from 29th to 33rd back to 29th last week with the de-commitment and recommitment of three-star linebacker Samuel Brooks.
Brooks initially de-committed after Hurricanes Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz left to take the Head Coaching job at Temple. The Miami Northwestern star recommitted to the Hurricanes after Safeties Coach Ephraim Banda and Outside Linebackers Coach Jonathan Patke were promoted to Co-Defensive Coordinators.
Becoming one of the finalists for Stevenson is a good coup for the Hurricanes. He is expected to sign with Georgia. The 247 Crystal Ball has 12 of the 16 prognosticators projecting Stevenson to sign with Georgia. Stevenson would be one of the highest rated recruits in Surge ’19 if he signs with the Miami football program.
Stevenson is the 38th ranked player overall in the Class of 2019, the fourth-ranked cornerback and sixth-ranked player in Florida according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings. He attends Miami Southridge high school in Homestead.
Stevenson was high school teammates with Miami Freshmen Mark Pope, DJ Scaife and Dee Wiggins. Hopefully, they can make an impact on Stevenson.
On Monday one of the Miami football program’s biggest recruiting targets four-star defensive end Adisa Isaac from New York announced he will be attending Penn State. Isaac would have been a huge addition to the Surge ’19 Class. The defensive line is the biggest area of strength of the players who are verbally committed to Miami.
Four 2019 players who are currently committed to the Miami football program for 2019 are defensive linemen. That includes four-star weakside defensive end Jahfari Harvey who is one of the biggest risers in the 2019 Class and defensive tackle Jason Blisset, who like Isaac is from New York.
The Hurricanes have the potential of adding one to three highly ranked players during the first day of the early signing period on Wednesday. Weakside defensive end Lloyd Summeral, offensive tackle Evan Neal and tight end Keon Zipperer will all announce their college decisions live on ESPN2 and ESPNU on Wednesday.
