On a day that is full of excitement for most College Football programs, the Miami football team received a bevy of bad news and missed opportunities Wednesday during the early National Signing Day.

In addition to missing out on several recruits who the Miami football program were finalists for, news leaked that Hurricanes Freshman quarterback Jarren Williams will be seeking a transfer following the 2018 season. Steve Wiltfong who is the Director of Recruiting for 247Sports.Com was the first to report Williams intentions.

Williams’ decision to transfer to another school creates a lot of questions. It also speaks to bigger issues with both the Miami football program specifically and the state of college football in general. The blame for Williams’ transfer is probably multifaceted and involve a few things and people.

The True Freshman Georgia native is the latest high profile quarterback to transfer to seeking better situation somewhere else. This tends to be Freshmen who enrolled somewhere and they were not happy with their playing time. This seems to be the case with Williams.

Williams was beaten out to be the UM starting QB in 2018. He was also passed over when N’Kosi Perry who was ahead of him on the depth chart was inserted to replace redshirt Senior Malik Rosier when the Hurricanes 2017 hero was not effective early this season.

Head Coach Mark Richt shuffled between Rosier and Perry as the season went on. The larger issue than what’s going on with the Miami’s recruiting class as discussed on WQAM twice today is that too many College Football Players, particularly quarterbacks are not patient waiting for playing time in this era.

Williams lack of patience was a combination of questions about why Richt didn’t play him and Williams not waiting. Williams was expected to challenge Perry to be the starting quarterback in 2019.
