The newest players made their commitments to the Miami football program official on Wednesday morning. The Hurricanes defensive line, offensive line, tight end and wide receiver and DBs all added depth with official National Letters of Intent signed.

The Miami football defense is expected to be the stronger side of the ball with the players who sign national letters of intent in the class of 2019. The defensive line especially is going to add a lot of depth and talent.

Four-star defensive end Jahfari Harvey, four-star defensive tackles, Jason Blisset and three-star Jalar Holley have all signed their NLIs. Four-star Chaminade-Madonna teammates safety Keontra Smith and cornerback Te-Cory Crouch have also inked their National Letters of Intent.

The Miami offense got stronger by adding depth on the offensive line, at tight end, and wide receiver. Three-star tight end Larry Hodges, three-star offensive linemen Zion Nelson Jakai Clark and four-star wide receiver Jeremiah Payton signed their NLIs. The rankings are courtesy of 247Sports.Com’s Composite rankings.

Smith is the highest ranked of the four current, newest Miami football players. He is the 185th ranked player in the Hurricanes Surge ’19 Class, the 15th ranked safety and 25th ranked player in Florida in the Class of 2019.

Smith fortifies a secondary that loses both starting safeties from their 2018 roster. Jaquan Johnson was a three-year starter and Sheldrick Redwine a two-year starter. Johnson has led Miami in tackles for the last two seasons. He was the team MVP in 2017 and the Defensive MVP in 2018.

Harvey was the first player to sign his National Letter of Intent for the 2018 Class. In response to the Sun Sentinel’s Christy Chirinos on Twitter South Florida recruiting Guru Larry Blustein stated that Harvey will be an “immediate impact player.” Miami loses star tackle Gerald Willis and potentially end Joe Jackson after this season.
