Nearly every recruiting article analyzing the “winners and losers” during the three-day early signing period graded the Surge ’19 Miami football recruiting class among the losers nationally.
The first day of the early signing period the Miami football program inked only 14 players for the Surge ’19 Class. One more player signed on Thursday and the Hurricanes were expected to add their 16th player to Surge ’19 on Friday.
The 247 Sports Composite rankings will likely have Miami as 29th nationally, fourth in the ACC and first in the ACC Coastal Division once classes are finalized for the early signing period. The Hurricanes signed some players who will contribute, but the quantity of the players Miami signed contributed to their loser label.
A significant part of the Hurricanes being labeled as losers during the first three days of signing players in the 2019 Class was just missing out on several players and losing some recruits flipping to other schools.
Some of those players chose their schools on Wednesday during the first day they could sign without previously making their commitments public. Three potential Miami football players signed with other schools after signing their National Letters of Intent with on ESPN.
Tight end Keon Zipperer and defensive end Lloyd Summeral of Lakeland decided to sign with Florida and five-star tackle Evan Neal signed with Alabama. The Hurricanes presented Neal with the opportunity to play with his brother who the Miami football program invited as a preferred walk-on.
Numerous websites have different reasons for being unimpressed with the class the Hurricanes currently have for Surge ’19. The Miami football program has time to turn the 2019 Recruiting Class around by landing some high profile players during the traditional signing period in February.
