Miami Football near unanimous losers during early signing period
Several Miami football recruits will announce their college choices at the high school all-star games in early January. The most prominent of those are five-star wide receiver Jadon Haselwood from Georgia and five-star defensive end Khris Bogle from Cardinal Gibbons in Fort Lauderdale.
SB Nation’s Alex Kirshner was not the only recruiting analyst to call out Miami for having more decommits than they did players who actually signed. He did give the Hurricanes props for getting Auburn transfer Asa Martin and that if Haselwood winds up in Coral Gables the class will be significantly improved.
If misery truly does love company, the Surge ’19 class was not the only royalty college football program that was deemed a loser during the early signing period. Florida State and Ohio State were given the same classification.
"“The Hurricanes started the week with more decommits than actual commits. That was still true after the first day of the Early Period. Miami didn’t add a single new commitment, and it had a high-profile whiff on Neal, the tackle who chose Bama… Miami did sign four-star Auburn transfer RB Asa Martin and does still have time to improve its prep class, especially if it gets a commitment later this winter from five-star receiver Jadon Haselwood. But that doesn’t seem as likely as it did earlier in his recruitment. Mark Richt has to figure some stuff out quickly.”"
Barton Simmons who is 247 Sports National Director of Scouting and Nation Writer for CBS Sports praised Miami quarterback Jarren Williams’ earlier this week when news broke that the Redshirt Freshman might transfer.
Simmons was not as kind to the Hurricanes results for Surge ’19. Simmons seemed to condemn the Hurricanes recruiting class as a whole during his analysis for CBS.
"Where do we begin? Miami finds itself 37th in the national rankings at the end of Wednesday. It has lost five commits in the Class of 2019 since the start of January, and it didn’t even sniff upward movement in the recruiting rankings on signing day. It lost to Florida on four-star teammates Keon Zipperer and Lloyd Summerall; it had been trending for five-star wide receiver Jadon Haselwood who is now getting plenty of Oklahoma buzz; and it felt like it could steal four-star cornerback Tyrique Stevenson away from Georgia. Miami got no good news — and it really needs good news.”"
A class that was once ranked in the top ten nationally has had a lot of the luster taken off of it.
Manny Navarro of the Athletic reported that the Hurricanes, Florida and Florida State are currently the three schools that have the most de-commitments from their recruiting/signing classes. It’s tough to know if that’s a trend in Florida or not.
