Will N’Kosi Perry be Miami Hurricanes starting quarterback in 2019?
There has been speculation that Perry is not a Richt guy as relayed by AP Miami Hurricanes beat writer Tim Reynolds on the Miami pregame show against Pittsburgh. Williams flipped to Miami after initially committing to Kentucky. He eventually signed with the Hurricanes in December 2017.
Williams enrolled in Coral Gables in January 2018. He is originally from Georgia and considered a Richt guy. Williams’ strengths are his accuracy and according to Reynolds, his quick progressions and reads of opposing defenses.
The Hurricanes need far more accuracy in the passing game in 2019. Miami is 116th nationally in completion percentage in 2019. The Hurricanes are 110th with a 117.22 passer rating.
Williams only playing time this season was in the home opening 77-0 victory over Savannah State. Williams battled an abdominal injury throughout the season. Redshirt Freshman Cade Weldon played in two games this season but was suspended for four games in the middle of the year.
Miami needs their quarterback room to grow up during the 2019 offseason. As it stands now, Perry, Williams and Weldon will be the only scholarship quarterbacks on the 2019 roster.
There are a few potential graduate transfers that Miami could reach out to following the season. More are likely to become available following spring practice.
