Four-star defensive end Khris Bogle who the Miami football team was the leader for throughout most of the 2019 recruiting cycle announced at the Army All-American Game that he will be signing a National Letter of Intent with Alabama.

Bogle decision is a crushing blow to the Miami football Surge ’19 Class that is the Hurricanes worst in the history of the rankings. Miami is currently ranked 33rd in the 247Sports composite rankings. Bogle is the latest player that Alabama has pilfered from South Florida.

Paul Burmeister who did the play-by-play on the NBC telecast relayed that Bogle told him that the difference might have been that current Alabama Defensive Line Coach Craig Kuligowski moved on from Miami to the Crimson Tide.

Alabama Running Backs Coach Joe Pannunzio was also identified by Burmeister as a key recruiter in the Crimson Tide’s pursuit of Bogle and South Florida in general.

Miami Head Coach Manny Diaz spoke about the fickle nature of recruiting and how all it takes is one player to change the perception of a program.

"“Look, the world has changed; kids want to go where the winning is…So that’s hard, because you have to create winning…Sometimes it takes that one guy saying `I’m staying,’Sometimes there’s more skill guys than we can take. We have to continue to pound on it where eighth- and ninth-graders are like `Look at the Miami Hurricanes, and my friends are there, I want to go play where [they] play. Setting that tone will be the key to recruiting.’”"

Bogle’s commitment to Alabama is a big loss for Miami, but they still have an excellent class signed on the defensive side of the football. Bogle is the nation’s 57th ranked player overall in the Class of 2019,  the third-ranked weakside defensive end and seventh-ranked player in Florida.

Safety Keontra Smith who signed with the Miami football program in December was the lone Hurricane recruit in the Army All-American game. Four other four-star defensive players signed with Miami during the early signing period in December.

Defensive end Jahfari Harvey, linebacker Avery Huff, cornerback Te’Cory Crouch and defensive tackle Jason Blissett signed their National Letters of Intent in December. Harvey and Blissett will have have the best chances to contribute in 2019.

Miami is awaiting the announcements from the nation’s top-ranked wide receiver, Jadon Haselwood from Georgia and defensive back Tyrique Stevenson from Miami Southridge. Their declarations of their college choice will come later in the Army All-American Game on Saturday.

Three of Stevenson’s high school teammates just finished their Freshmen seasons at Miami. Wide receivers Dee Wiggins and Mark Pope and offensive tackle Delone Scaife all played for the Hurricanes in 2018.

dark. Next. Miami football 7-6 2018 falls on the defense too

Scaife played in all 13 games, starting seven at right tackle, Wiggins played every game starting three and Pope played in seven games. Wiggins had seven receptions for 73 yards and was a very adept blocker as a Freshman. He had substantial playing time amongst a talented Freshmen receiving corps.
