Linebacker/defensive end Jaelan Phillips who was the number one recruit in the nation in 2017 has hinted he is leaning towards committing to the Miami football program based on his Twitter timeline.
In a series of tweets, Jaelan Phillips seems to favor committing to playing for the Miami football team. Phillips spent two injury-filled seasons playing at UCLA. In two seasons with the Bruins, Phillips only played in ten games. Phillips recorded 41 tackles, eight tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in 2017 and 2018 combined.
He is one of the most sought after transfers in the 2019 NCAA Transfer Portal. New Miami Head Coach Manny Diaz and his staff have done an outstanding job infusing the Miami football roster with a ton of talent from the Transfer portal. In three and a half weeks as the Hurricanes Head Coach, Diaz has added four impact transfers.
The transfers added to the Miami football roster this month are former four-star Safety Bubba Bolden from USC, Graduate Transfer wide receiver K.J. Osborne from Buffalo, quarterback Tate Martell from Ohio State and Phillips former UCLA teammate defensive tackle Chigozie Nnoruka.
If Phillips does decide to transfer to Miami he would likely have to sit out the 2019 season before having two seasons of college eligibility remaining commencing in 2020. Phillips would be an important addition to the Miami defensive line.
The Hurricanes face the possibility of losing Rising Junior defensive end Jonathan Garvin after the 2019 season. Phillips was a high school teammate of Miami tight end Brevin Jordan and Martell. His first tweet relating to Miami was about Martell’s arrival in Coral Gables.
