Miami basketball could be down two more players vs Virginia Tech

Four Virginia Tech players have started at least 18 of the Hokies’ 19 games this season. Those four players are 6’10, two are 6’5 and one is 6’1. Larranaga mentioned that the Miami basketball team matches up much better in height than they did with Syracuse and Florida State who defeated them the last two games.

Virginia Tech has been ranked as high as ninth in the AP Poll this season. That is the Hokies highest ranking since they were eighth in 1996. Virginia Tech is on pace for three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time in school history.

Like Miami, the Hokies have excellent balance offensively. Four Virginia Tech players average in double figures. The Hokies are led by Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Justin Robinson. Alexander-Walker averages 17.5 points per game, 4.2 Rebounds and  3.8 assists. Robinson is averaging 14.2 PPG, 3.5 RPG and 5.6 APG.

Kerry Blackshear is the one post player for Virginia Tech. Blackshear is averaging 13.3 PPG and 6.3 RPG. Ahmad Hill is also averaging 13.3 PPG and leads the team with 48 made three-point field goals. Virginia Tech leads the ACC with an average of 10.6 three-point field goals made per game.

Virginia Tech is the Miami basketball program’s fifth most frequently played opponent. Against schools they have played at least 20 times, the Hurricanes .611 winning percentage against the Hokies is Miami’s third best.
