The Miami football program issued offers to three recruits on Monday according to the players’ Twitter accounts. Linebacker Chamon Matayer, offensive lineman Zak Zinter and defensive end Brandon Williams received offers from the Hurricanes on Monday.

The Miami football program hopes to get a boost in the Class of 2020 with Manny Diaz taking over as Head Coach. The Hurricanes 2020 recruiting class is currently sixth in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Being this highly ranked and then falling has been a common theme for the Miami recruiting classes in the last few years.

The Surge ’19 Class was at one time ranked in the top ten. They fell to 36th on Monday after defensive lineman Jason Munoz flipped to Syracuse. Munoz was released by Miami from the National Letter of Intent he signed with the Hurricanes last month.

Miami has six hard commits in the Class of 2020 according to 247. All six commits are four-star players. The Hurricanes have received verbal commitments from one tight end, two wide receivers and three defensive linemen for next year’s signing class.

Williams and Zinter would add to the four-star trend of Miami’s 2020 recruiting class. Matayer is a 6’3 220 pound outside linebacker in the Class of 2021. The North Miami High School recruit is the nation’s 93rd ranked player, fifth-ranked OLB, and 14th ranked player in Florida in 2021.

Matayer has received a baker’s dozen of college scholarship offers. Nearly half of those are from Power Five schools. In addition to Miami, Florida State, Florida, Nebraska, Maryland and Colorado have also offered Matayer a spot in their programs. There is no crystal ball yet on which school he might be leaning towards.

Williams is the same height and weight as Matayer at 6’3, 220 pounds. He plays high school football at Isidore Newman in New Orleans. Among Newman’s alums are former SuperBowl MVPs Peyton and Eli Manning.

Williams is the 256 ranked player, 17th ranked outside linebacker and the 11th ranked player in Louisiana. There is no crystal ball on Williams yet either. Florida, LSU and Tennessee lead for his services per 247.

Zinter is a 6’6 300-pound offensive tackle from North Andover, Massachusetts.  He is the 137th ranked player in the Class of 2020, the 19th ranked tackle and third-ranked player in Massachusetts. Like Williams and Matayer there are no crystal ball predictions on Zinter yet.

Zinter has received offers from 17 Power Five schools and six ACC programs. He would be an important commit for Miami. They Hurricanes do not have any offensive linemen committed for 2020. MIami only has three players signed to National Letters of Intent on the offensive line for 2019.

In his Tweet thanking Miami for the offer, Zinter mentioned Hurricanes Head Coach Manny Diaz and Offensive Line Coach Butch Barry. Barry is entering his first year with Miami. He is taking over for the fired Stacy Searles. Searles is now at North Carolina under Diaz’s previous employer Mack Brown.

Offensive tackle Zion Nelson is one of three 2019 signees and the only offensive lineman in the Surge ’19 Class currently enrolled at Miami. Four-star wide receiver Jeremiah Payton and defensive end Jahfari Harvey are the Hurricanes other two early enrollees. Payton is the highest ranked player in Surge ’19.
