Former Miami football Head Coach Mark Richt will be a part of ESPN’s National Signing Day Coverage according to reports from numerous Media Outlets.

Larry Brown Sports and Saturday Down South both reported within the last 24 hours that former Miami Football Head Coach Mark Richt will be joining ESPN on Wednesday to participate in their coverage of National Signing Day. Richt was very close to the vest with information with the Hurricanes.

It will be very interesting to see how much information he discloses about the recruits that he and his staff were recruiting before his abrupt retirement on December 30. The defensive staff that worked under Richt is still intact under new Miami Football Coach Manny Diaz. Diaz added Co-Defensive Coordinator Brett Baker last month.

Miami Hurricanes beat reporter Christy Chirinos was one of the first reporters to break the story that Richt will be a part of the mothership’s coverage. She posted a tweet early on Monday afternoon that Richt would be joining ESPN in Studio. A press release by ESPN’s Kimberly Elchlepp detailed ESPN’s National Signing Day schedule.

The press release states “ESPN.com will cover National Signing Day from start to finish.” but did not specify exactly what that means. The press release did state that ESPN’s coverage will begin at Noon ET. Potential Miami signee Kaiir Elam will announce his college destination sometime in the 1 PM ET hour.

The ESPN press release mentions that Richt will be in studio but did not go into further detail about his presence in their coverage. “Recently retired University of Miami head Coach Mark Richt will join the team in studio.”

Matt Schick will host ESPN’s coverage that Richt will be a part of with former UCLA Head Coach Jim Mora Jr. and several of ESPN’s college football game and recruiting analysts. During the season Mora occasionally worked on ESPN with former Miami All-American linebacker Jonathan Vilma.

LBS posted a thought that many in the College Football World and especially the Miami Football fanbase and media have wondered since Richt stepped down just over five weeks ago.

"“Now 58, you have to wonder whether Richt will go into broadcasting permanently or attempt a return to coaching.”"

In addition to providing insight for those close to the Miami football program, Richt will also be able to present an in-depth look into the recruiting at Georgia where he was employed before being hired at Miami in December 2015 shortly after he was fired by the Bulldogs.

The irony is that Richt was succeeded at Miami by Diaz who was an intern at ESPN in the early 1990s before embarking on his coaching career. Richt was also an ESPN analyst for the College Football Playoff Semifinals in 2015 at the Orange Bowl. He appeared in an interview with College Gameday live from Southbeach.
