The Miami basketball women’s team will return home after three games on the road to host Florida State on Sunday afternoon at the Watsco Center.

The Miami basketball women are coming off a disappointing 73-65 loss to Virginia Tech on Thursday. The loss to the Hokies ended a 15 game winning streak for Miami against Virginia Tech.

Thursday’s loss was a clear letdown after Miami upset number two Louisville last Sunday. The victory over the Cardinals was Miami’s second in three games over a team ranked in the top four. Miami defeated then number four Notre Dame on February 13.

Miami will try to avenge its only loss this season in six games against ranked teams. Florida State defeated the Hurricanes 62-58 in Tallahassee on January 31.

The Hurricanes boast one of the best post tandems in the country. Senior Emese Hof and Junior Beatrice Mompremier are tough for opponents to defend.

Hof was named ESPNW’s National Player of the Week in the Victory over Louisville. Mompremier leads Miami with 16.7 points per game and 11.7 rebounds. Hof is averaging 14.2, 8.4 and lead the Hurricanes with 2.1 blocks per game.

The loss to Virginia Tech dropped Miami to a 10-3 and a tie for third place in the ACC with North Carolina State who lost to Notre Dame on Monday. The Fighting Irish lead the conference with a 12-2 record. Louisville is second at 11-2.

The loss to the Hokies could cost Miami a share of the ACC regular season title. A loss by either or both Louisville and Notre Dame this late in the ACC Schedule is highly unlikely. Sunday’s game is the Hurricanes first home game since the victory over Notre Dame.

The game against the Seminoles is also Miami’s annual pink game. The Hurricanes visit to the KFC Yum Center last week was Louisville’s pink game. College basketball teams throughout the nation hold an annual pink game to help raise awareness for breast cancer.

Florida State enters the game 21-5 overall and 9-4 in the ACC a game behind Miami. The Seminoles defeated Pittsburgh 78-46 in their previous game last Sunday. That ended a two-game losing streak.
